WHAT WE ARE TEACHING IN MAY

"What's Next"

A Teaching Series from Acts on The Early Church

Puzzles don't come with step-by-step instructions for solving them. That's what makes them so much fun. You have to try to figure out the next best step to take. When Jesus left Earth, his followers had to wonder the same thing — "What's next?" During this four-week series about the Early Church, kids will see how Jesus' followers solved the puzzle of what to do next and the ways we can follow in their footsteps. As kids discover what to do next, they'll learn they can follow Jesus, pray for others, love like Jesus did, and share the good news.

POST EASTER RESOURCE FOR FAMILIES

Our YFM Team is offering families a special resource this post Easter Season. “Darkest Night, Brightest Day,” written by Marty Machowski, shows families how Easter morning turned the world upside down and right side up. Celebrate the joy of the resurrection with your family by reading this beautifully illustrated “upside-down” book. Begin with the first side, “Darkest Night,” which has seven stories that recount the events of Palm Sunday and Passion week, ending with Christ’s crucifixion and burial. Then, flip the book over and continue by reading “Brightest Day” with seven more stories that progress from Christ’s resurrection to His ascension and Pentecost. Contact Beth Stoffregen or stop by the YFM Table on the courtyard patio on Sunday mornings to pick up your copy.

  • MAY PHILANTHROPY: ORANGE COUNTY RESCUE MISSION

Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM) helps people overcome homelessness and become financially self-sufficient. OCRM is a faith-based, life-transformation program that provides on-campus housing, basic needs, and comprehensive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Our RHL Community is partnering with OCRM by collecting canned food items, which will bless those in our local community who are experiencing homelessness. Most needed canned items are: tuna, meat, fruit and vegetables, spaghetti sauce, beans, and soup. Most needed packaged items are: peanut butter, rice, cereal, snack bars, pasta and instant noodles. Additionally, all chapel offerings collected this month will go to support the OCRM.

  • GOD MADE ME FOR WORSHIP

Understanding the different parts of a worship service can be confusing. One minute everyone is singing loudly, the next everyone is sitting and listening quietly. Sometimes the adults know something that should be said out loud like, “Thanks be to God!” How did they know what to say? What is communion all about? Why does the pastor raise his hands and pray at the end of the service?

This bright and colorful children’s book celebrates how God reveals himself to his people in the movements of worship. All the parts of worship tell the story of the gospel, and since Jesus is the object of our worship, his story of redemption gives shape to our worship. The author of this book guides parents to help their kids understand why we’re intentional about worship, encouraging them to engage—not just to manage behavior during a worship gathering, and invites children to respond to God along with the whole church body.

Itzel has served on our Children's Ministry Team in a variety of roles since 2020. Currently, she serves as RHL's Children's Ministry Coordinator and 2nd Grade Small Group Leader. Itzel received her Bachelor’s in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UCLA and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Genetic Counseling from UCI. Although Itzel's professional background is in science, she enjoys fostering an environment where kids can explore, learn, and ultimately grow in their faith. Serving in the K.I.D.S. Ministry has allowed Itzel an opportunity to channel her innate curiosity to nurture the interest of children in their walk with Jesus. When not working on the next game or lesson for ministry, you can find Itzel reading her latest book, hanging with her crazy pups, enjoying some time with her large family, or investigating the next topic that has caught her eye.
